20 Shades of Grey-Confusing Job Descriptions in Comms, Digital Marketing and Content Creators

In 2005 when I started working, I was a graphic designer. In 2008 when I joined the corporate affairs department at Daystar University, I was a designer and photographer. By 2011 when I registered my photography business Photomagic Studio Limited, I was deep into photography. In October of 2013, I started teaching photography and later in 2016, we ventured deep into videography as a business. In 2018, I bought and learnt to fly a drone when I got a big real estate assignment with the National Housing Corporation. Today, I do not know what to call myself.
If you are in any of these 20 communication fields listed below in your career, I can bet the blurred lines are more than the taxes you are paying right now! A friend who works as photojournalist in an international media house, mentioned to me recently how his mobile phone works along his 600k camera in the field, at times the pressure for the phone footage preceding the 45 megapixel award-winning images.
Communication managers have enrolled in some of the programmes I have conducted for photography, videography and graphic design learning. During Covid. I had a few PhD holders in a public research organization, teaching them data visualization and how to create infographics using Adobe software.
If communication is a key ingredient in your day-to-day work, career or profession, mastering a few digital communication skills and competencies is necessary-hakuna otherwise. If you don’t, you will find yourself struggling, redundant, or frustrated by other cogs in the system. You will always be at the mercy of others.
